Red Snake Roulette Bet: How The Snake Bet Works

Red Snake Roulette Bet: How The Snake Bet Works

Roulette may be a game of chance, but it does not stop players from implementing various strategies.

These strategies include the Martingale, Fibonacci, D'Alembert and the Labouchere. In this Roulette online casino blog post, we will discuss the Snake bet, how it works, and its potential payouts.

What Is a Red Snake on Roulette?

The red snake, also known as the snake bet, is a type of bet that, when placed, makes a pattern similar to a snake body pattern. It is a bet type that forms an S on the board, although some players have argued it forms an M, depending on the angle you are looking at.

It is called a red snake because the numbers you bet on that form the S shape are on the red pockets. It covers 12 red numbers: 1, 5, 9, 12, 14, 16, 19, 23, 27, 30, 32, and 34, which are placed as 12 Straight Up bets simultaneously.

That means if any of the 12 numbers win, you will receive a payout of 35:1. Due to the nature of the win for this bet type, it is considered one of the most expensive bets to make since you are placing 12 bets, and only one can win in a round, if any.

How Do You Place a Snake Bet On Roulette?

Placing the snake bet on roulette is relatively straightforward in online and land-based casinos. Some online roulette casinos may have a button you can click on that automatically places the snake bet for you, or you can do it manually by placing 12 chips on the 12 red numbers that make an S shape.

The process may be the same for land-based casinos as well. You may have to place the chips on the 12 numbers manually or announce that you are making a red snake bet, and the dealer may place the chips on the respective numbers for you. But this depends on the rules for the specific casino.

However, before placing your chips, you may need to choose how much stake you want to make for each number. For example, you may make a minimum bet of £1 on each number, totalling £12 for the whole snake bet.

If you're playing in an online casino, double-check your numbers and bet sizes and then press the Spin button to spin the roulette wheel. If you're playing in a land-based casino, the dealer spins the wheel right after everyone has placed their bets and announces that no more bets are allowed.

And then you wait for the wheel to stop spinning to see if you have won.

Red Snake Roulette Payout

A red snake roulette bet has a payout potential of 35 to 1. For example, if you have placed an equal bet size on all 12 numbers and one of the numbers, say maybe the number 1, comes up, your payout would be your bet size times 35.

That is because the red snake is not a single bet or a bet in and of itself, as with other bet types like red or black or the column bet. It is a combination of Straight Up bets on 12 individual numbers.

If your bet wins, you will only win on a single number. So, even though you place the bet on 12 numbers, only one of these numbers can win.

Is The Roulette Snake Bet Profitable?

Many players play the snake bet because it covers just under a third of the wheel but offers the same potential payout as a Straight Up bet. However, that doesn't make it profitable because, even if you win, you lose money on the 11 bets that didn't win.

Also, it does not offer you as high a probability of winning as an even-money outside bet does, for example.

In addition, it does not affect the house edge or your chances of winning. The house edge remains the same because your chances of winning when playing a snake bet are the same as any other Straight Up bet. Your odds remain at 1 in 37 for European roulette or 1 in 38 for American roulette.

Therefore, it is not more profitable than placing random Straight Up bets on the wheel. However, it can potentially be more costly since it requires more chips or bet units.

Last Words

The red snake bet is another bet type roulette enthusiasts can experiment with when playing roulette. But, it does not increase your chances of winning or offer more profitable payouts than any other type of a Straight Up bet.

However, it looks interesting on the board and offers an alternative betting strategy for those looking to try something new.
